New Program Assistant and Organizer

We would like to welcome our new program assistant and organizer, emem (they/them)! emem aka cunty meme is an artist, international activist, community organizer born in Brooklyn and raised on the South Side of Chicago. They began activism at American University, DC rallying around issues of race, gender, and class. They helped facilitate workshops for over 500 students during their time as a student organizer. While in DC, they focused on mutual aid programs and providing educational workshops surrounding food justice, autonomy, self-defense, and political education for the local DC community. emem is a multi-disciplinary artist, and model. As a poet, singer/songwriter/ pianist, they seek to create art that empowers and uplifts the power of the people. Additionally they work with Hip-Hop and graffiti artists in Havana, Cuba. They have hopes of continuing the legacy of Nehanda Isoke Abiodun with the Afro-Cuban HIp-Hop community through political education and the principles of self-determination. emem hopes to connect more queer and trans political Hip-Hop artists with the growing and robust Hip-Hop community in Cuba.
With BSA, emem will help us with our efforts of bringing more consistent programming to the South and West side of Chicago for our Trans and GNC community, especially our Black Trans/GNC community.

Welcome to the team, emem! We’re so excited to create and build with you! ❤️✊🏾
